B-25J-30-NC SN 44-86747 "Mitch the Witch II"

History

The B-25J-30-NC SN 44-86747 now known as "Mitch the Witch II" was delivered on June 25, 1945. She was flown straight to storage at Independence, Missouri and later transferred to Pyote, Texas. She was removed from storage in October of 1949 and assigned to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. She was modified by Hayes in 1954. Her next assignment was to Andrews Air Force Base until December of 1958 when she was flown to storage. She was sold on May 4, 1959 to Alton C. Mosley from Fairbanks, Alaska. Her registration was assigned as N8163H. She was equipped with a fire retardant tank in July of 1959. In April of 1961, she was sold to Merric Inc. of Anchorage, Alaska. Aero Retardant of Fairbanks, Alaska purchased her in April of 1967. D. Gilbertson and James Anderson operated her as Tanker #7. By February of 1974, she was noted as derelict at the Fairbanks Airport in Alaska. In February of 1977, she was sold to Noel Wien of Anchorage, Alaska. He sold her in December of 1978 to the Air Museum in Chino, California. In 1986, she was Featured in the film "Forever Young". She was sold in March of 1986 to Robert Pond of Spring Park, Minnesota. In 2000, she was launched off the CV-16 U.S.S. Lexington and the CV-64 U.S.S. Constellation for the filming of the movie "Pearl Harbor". She is currently on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
