About John

John McCullagh: B-25 History Project Board Member and Photographer: John became interested in aviation when he was young. His father always took him to air shows and aviation museums. For as long as he can remember, he was drawn to "warbirds". The history of the people who built them, maintained them and flew them has always fascinated him. This project, was a natural fit.

He joined the Heart of America Commemorative Air Force about 10 years ago. He had been to several of their open houses and other events. One year, the B-17 Sentimental Journey showed up on the ramp and he knew he had to be a part of thier organization. He has spent the last 6 years as an elected member of the staff, as Safety Officer.

He first became interested in photography before high school. While in high school, He worked on the school paper and yearbook, taking pictures of sporting events and other school activities. He also worked in the darkroom, developing film and printing pictures. Photographing "warbirds" is the combination of his two loves.

He does quite a bit of photography work for the Heart of America CAF wing. His work has been published in the CAF national magazine called "DISPATCH". He has also won a few awards from their photo contest over the last few years. He contributes to multiple aviation related websites and Facebook pages, as well as several major air shows in the Midwest. His work has been published in multiple aviation publications in several countries.

Although I am a capable photographer, I chose John to work on this project for several reasons. First and foremost is his love for aviation. He is extremely dedicated to doing whatever it takes to honor and preserve these old girls and their history. He has worked hard to develop an "eye" for photographing history. I am proud and honored to have his talents on board.
