About Wim
Wim Nijenhuis - B-25 History Project Historian:(1953) lives in the city of Deventer in the eastern part of the Netherlands. His profession was in housing corporations. As a young boy, he was an enthusiastic plastic modeller. Wim was founder of the eastern chapter of IPMS-Netherlands (International Plastic Modellers' Society), co-founder of the first Special Interest Group within IPMS-Netherlands and for several years chairman of IPMS-Netherlands. Although he was born after the Second World War, the airplanes of the war had his interest. He has specialized in American and British bombers, with a special interest in the B-25 Mitchell. He has now built a collection of approximately 40 B-25 models and many other bombers in 1/48 and 1/32 scales.
For many years he has collected photographs and much information about the B-25 and has written many articles in Dutch modelling and aviation magazines. In 2011, he published a non-commercial three-part study about the B-25 in its post-war role in front of the camera as a movie star as well as the camera ship. It consists of the volumes 'Catch-22', 'Hanover Street' and 'Camera Ships'. In June 2013, his book 'B-25 Factory Times' was published with a preface of James Kindelberger Graham, grandson of the famous pioneer James H. "Dutch" Kindelberger, former President of North American Aviation. In September 2017, his book 'Mitchell Masterpieces Vol. I' was published and is entirely dedicated to B-25s in U.S. service. The second part concerning the B-25 in military service of other countries, was published in October 2019. The third and final Vol. 3 is expected at the end of 2020 and will deal with the B-25s worldwide in civilian service. These books are nowadays considered as the better and reliable reference books for the B-25.
Wim is also co-editor of the magazines of IPMS-Netherlands and the Royal Netherlands Air Force Historical Flight, a voluntary organization of warbirds including the B-25 'Sarinah'.
