History

The B-25D-5-NC SN 41-30118 was completed on January 13, 1943. She was transferred to the Kansas City modification center for modifications. After modifications, she was flown to Kellogg Field, Michigan and then to McClellan Field for further modifications prior to being sent overseas. In May of 1943, she was ferried to Australia via Hawaii. On August 5, 1943, she was damaged by anti-aircraft fire and was forced to ditch before making the New Guinea coast. The wreck sat relatively intact underwater until her discovery in September of 1979. The following summary of assignments are listed on her record card:

Shortly after her discovery, scavengers began to loot her wreck site. At the time of discovery, she was fully intact with the exception of her port engine that was torn off when she hit the water. Sitting at a depth of about 55 feet, she remains a popular dive site to this day. Considerable damage has been done by the exposure to the salt water over the years, and eventually, the sea will reclaim her.
