Technical Specifications
The North American general order NA-62 was issued on September 5, 1939. This order authorized the production of 1 test airframe and 184 aircraft. The B-25 was born. From the start of production of the first B-25 until the completion of the last B-25J, there were 9,889 B-25 bombers produced in two factories. The Inglewood, California factory produced 3,209 B-25 bombers, and the Fairfax, Kansas plant produced 6,680 B-25 bombers. This number includes the final 72 aircraft that were completed after the war officially ended. The production history of each of those B-25 bombers, including the predecessor of the B-25 known as the NA-40, is included on these pages separated by production block. I have also included information on the "missing" E, F, and I models. Although the technical details do vary from model to model, here are some basic numbers that are generally true for most aircraft.

A note about serial numbers: The serial numbers are not always consecutive. There are many reasons for these discrepancies. There were two plants producing B-25 bombers at the same time. At the beginning of each contract, each plant was assigned a block of serial numbers. Sometimes, a plant would not make as many planes as it had serial numbers assigned. This would create a gap between serial numbers. If a plant were to use all of the assigned serial numbers, new numbers were issued, again creating a gap. On several occasions, planes from one model were modified into another model production run. This also creates discontiguous serial numbers. Several B-25 production blocks were contracts destined for different countries. These production blocks were separate contracts and therefore had different serial numbers assigned. The discrepancy in serial numbers of the final production run of B-25J-35-NC planes was due to the termination of the B-25 production contract. There were 72 aircraft listed in the contract termination inventory as "Flyable but incomplete" condition.
