B-25H-5-NA SN 43-4513

History

The B-25H-5-NA SN 43-4513 was delivered on January 27, 1944. She was initially sent to the Kansas City modification center for modifications. By February 23rd, she was at Hunter Field to be modified further. She was then assigned to the Air Transport Command for use as a replacement. She was Assigned to the 42nd Bombardment Group, 100th Bombardment Squadron at Stirling Airfield and made her way overseas by the end of March. On September 3, 1944 she was damaged by small arms fire during a routine mission. She lost one engine and the other overheated. The B-25 suffered a nose gear failure as the pilot made an emergency landing at Talasea Airfield. She was pushed off the runway and usable parts were salvaged. She remains there, as she was, basically an unrecovered wreck. Although not technically on display, she is quite accessible and often visited.
