B-25J-20-NC SN 44-29500
History
The B-25J-20 SN 44-29500 was delivered on October 6, l944 and assigned to the Brazilian Air Force under project MAP 53-1. She was in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) by November 22, 1944. During WW II the B-25s supplied to Brazil were used mostly in patrol and anti-submarine duties. She is known to have operated as a standard bomber with the FAB until the late 1950s. The detailed history of 44-29500 in the FAB is sketchy at best. Post WW II the Brazilians used the B-25s to fill out there bomber units until more advanced aircraft became available in the 1960s. She was used in a bomber role from 1944 until withdrawn from front line duty around 1959. She was in active FAB inventory until l967, being used by training and testing units. She was also used in training flight personnel and aircrews. Some of the Brazilian B-25s were assigned to weather units and other testing programs after their active bomber days were over. When she was grounded she was assigned to a training unit for ground instructions. The Brazilian Air Force retired all their B-25s from active duty by the mid l960s but several served on in the technical training schools for several more years. By the early l970s all remaining B-25s in the FAB inventory were authorized for disposal. A few of these B-25s were located at the FAB base in Guarentegenta and although the others were eventually scrapped she was donated in l975 to the Transportation Museum in Beboduro, Brazil. Since being at the museum she has not been restored to any degree and is kept on outside display where weather conditions are slowly taking their toll on her. In relatively stock condition it would be a nice restoration project. The following summary of assignments are listed on her record card:
